Frequently Asked Questions for Parent and Family Weekend
Commonly Asked Questions:
Note: This is a FAQ from the past years' event and does not necessarily reflect the answers for PFW 2017.
Why did you select this weekend?
There are a lot of factors that go into selecting the date for Parent and Family Weekend. First, we look at the home football schedule, as we like being able to include a home football game into the weekend. Then, we look at weekends that are not too close to the beginning of the year, but also not too close to the Thanksgiving break. After that, we work with campus partners to plan around other large events like Homecoming, big admissions visit days, etc.
Do you have hotel blocks for hotels?
Yes! The hotel block at the Commons is currently full. As families change plans, openings may come up. Click here to check availability. Another great option is the Hilton Garden Inn in Downtown Minneapolis at $129/night. Call 1-888-853-6917 for reservations. Additional recommendations can be found here.
What are the activities and workshops available this year?
We are still confirming the final list of workshops and optional activities, but the topics will be related to housing, career planning, and other topics that will be pertinent to our gopher families. The activities list will include both events on and off campus in the surrounding metro area. Check out our At-A-Glance Schedule here to stay updated.
What is the cost for Parent and Family Weekend?
The fee for registration is a per person rate. For PFW 2016, participants will be able to select from three packages (Friday only, Saturday only, or Friday & Saturday). Click here for more details.
How can I purchase football tickets to the Minnesota v. Purdue game?
You can purchase tickets here.
Will I be able to sit with my student at the football game?
If students have already purchased tickets (either season passes or individual tickets), they will be seated in the student section. The tickets you, as a family member, purchase will not be in the student section. The athletics ticket office can help you with options for sitting together as a family. You can reach them at 1-800-U-GOPHER.
Do we have to attend the football game in order to attend the Tailgate?
No, absolutely not. Some of our families will attend the Tailgate and stay with us at Mariucci to watch the game on the Jumbo-tron. Other families may visit a local establishment to view the game or choose to do something else for the afternoon. Options are listed under the PFW tab on our site.
When will we know the time of the game?
We may not know the time of the game until 7-10 days prior.
Feel free to contact us at any time.
